About Us
The earliest mention in historical records of the Chamber of Commerce in Newham was in 1903. The current organisation has resulted from a merger of two chambers – West Ham and East Ham - on January 1st, 1967.
In chairman Peter Harvey’s own words:
"A Chamber of Commerce is an organisation which should provide practical information to members, enable networking to occur so that local businesses can promote themselves and to discuss mutual problems with others, campaign to make life better for owners and staff of companies and have strong links at Parliamentary and local government level."
NCC meets all these criteria and is the voice of business in the East London borough of Newham.
Networking
Monthly breakfast meetings are held at West Ham United Football Club in Green Street, Upton Park. For details, email: info@newhamchamber.com.
Practical Information
Regular information bulletins are distributed to members to keep them abreast of news affecting businesses. After breakfast meetings, various specialists provide one-to-one advice sessions.
Campaigning
Regular meetings have been set up with our local MPs to campaign over issues raised by members. The Mayor’s Business Adviser is a member of our Executive Council and senior local government officers attend breakfast meetings.
Membership
Our member companies range from international firms like Tate & Lyle and London City Airport to medium, small and one-person businesses. We have over 200 members and an email list approaching 500 names.
